Want to Make your Mum (or wife) Happy?

Here's some very important information for Santa Fe locals as well as visitors to The Madeleine Bed & Breakfast Inn:  according to a recent study done by the independent research firm Toluna and released  by buy.com, mothers say a spa day or gift card is their most desired Mother's Day Gift.  Surprisingly, mothers in the study let it be known that flowers are their least desired gift on this special day!  Who knew?

Now that you are properly informed, we are here to help.  Absolute Nirvana Spa, located in the peaceful back gardens of The Madeleine Inn, offers an array of relaxing and rejuvenating facials and massages, all given by therapists with 17-30 years of experience.  We have also put together a Mother's Day Indulgence, so you can give Mum the gift she so desires and deserves.  Our Mother's Day special is a combination 60 minute Master's Massage followed by a 60 minute Master's Facial.  We are offering the Mother's Day Indulgence for the entire month of May for just $168 - a savings of $42.  You can also give your mother or wife a gift certificate for Absolute Nirvana Spa.  Whether you plan ahead or are a last minute person, our online gift certificates are an easy way to give the woman in your life the perfect gift.

Mother's Day Brunch

Hooray, one of my all-time favorite neighborhood restaurants, La Boca, will soon be serving a weekend brunch.  The restaurant is popular with our guests at The Madeleine Bed & Breakfast Inn for its location (just a short four blocks away) and fabulous food.  Famous for its innovative menu of tapas, La Boca will begin serving brunch the weekend of May 7 and 8, just in time for Mother's Day festivities.  The brunch menu will be available from 9am-3pm.

Like the restaurant's lunch and dinner menus, brunch at La Boca is also tapas-oriented.  You will want to order a variety of dishes so everyone at the table can enjoy a range of delightful flavors.  I have always found the staff at La Boca to be very helpful should you have any dilemmas around ordering.  Selections from the new brunch menu are:

Cardamon-date bread with fresh Spanish goat cheese & local, seasonal fruit.
Fried Egg Panini iwth jamon Serrano, Bacon or Smoke Salmon
Jamon Bikini - melted manchego Panini wrapped in Spanish ham
Huevos Flamencos - casuela of chorizo, potatoes, jamon Serrano, pepper & onions topped with two eggs
Huevos Revueltos - scrambled eggs iwth asparagus, manchego on olive oil toasted baguette
Omelette with avocado, arugula & drunken goat cheese
Fried oyster-bacon bocadillo

For the daring, try the Bloody Mary Raw Oyster Shooters with a spash of fino electrico sherry.

I have to say, every dish I have ever ordered at La Boca has been sensational.  While I have not had any of the above brunch selections, I can only imagine they will be of the same calibre as the lunch and dinner dishes I have savored in the past.

La Boca is located in an intimate space so will be want to call ahead to reserve your table.

Calling all Flamenco Lovers

Guests of The Madeleine Bed & Breakfast Inn may want to join Santa Fe locals in support of the Juan Siddi Flamenco Theatre Company.  The 3rd Annual Gala for this fabulous flamenco group will be held on Sunday, April 17 from 4-9pm.  Enjoy live dancing by company members as well as delicious paella and tapas from La Boca, one of my favorite Santa Fe restaurants.  The cash bar will include an array of drinks, including Spanish sangria - the perfect beverage for such an event.

Along with the passion of flamenco dance and the sublime flavors of paella, guests are invited to peruse the silent auction, hosted by local philanthropist Ali MacGraw.  The auction will include a variety of donations from Santa Fe's top artists and businesses.  Santa Fe silent auctions can be a real treasure trove of local art, jewelry and services.

Another treat is the venue -  the historic Scottish Rite Temple.  The Moorish revival building, built in 1911, is modeled after the Alhambra in Granada, Spain.

Ticket prices are $25 if purchased through the Lensic before April 17.  You may buy tickets by phoning 505.988.1234 or online at www.TicketsSantaFe.org.
Prices at the door are $30 (cash or check only please) and $10 for children 12 and under.

Lensic Celebrates 10 Years

The historic Lensic Theatre, built in 1931, is now celebrating 10 years as Santa Fe's premier non-profit performing arts center.  Guests of The Madeleine Bed & Breakfast Inn are fascinated with the ornate architecture as they pass by, but let me assure you, the theatre is even more spectacular on the interior.  Visitors and locals alike will want to be part of the upcoming 10 Year Gala Celebration on Saturday, April 16, at 5pm.

The Gala will feature performances by musicians, dancers, circus acts and more.  Imagine being able to see the Santa Fe Symphony, Santa Fe Pro Musica, Wise Fool and an Aspen Santa Fe Ballet School Soloist all in one night!  There will also be a Film Retrospective of The Lensic Theatre, showing the evolution of this historic landmark theatre through the past eight decades.  When the Lensic first opened it offered movies to Depression-weary Santa Feans for as little as $0.25, and also became a popular venue for vaudeville shows passing through the west.  The theater actually closed its doors in 1999 when it couldn't keep up with the technical advances required for modern-day movie screenings.  Thanks to the efforts of a dedicated group of arts lovers, the theater evolved to become the current home to many of Santa Fe's stellar arts groups as well as a stage for national and international performing artists.

For those holding Gala tickets, the fun continues after the performance with a dinner dance at the Lumpkins Ballroom of La Fonda Hotel, just two blocks away.  The festive dinner is black-tie optional, with dance music provided by Soulstice.

$25 and $50 for the Lensic performance only.
$250 includes Gala Dinner Dance at La Fonda and premium seating
Tickets may be purchased by phoning 505.988.1234 or online at TicketsSantaFe.org.
